Swim Team Honored at Student-Athlete Reception
Teams Recognized for Academic Achievements
May 3, 2001 MILWAUKEE -- The UWM men's and women's swimming and diving team was honored for its academic achievements at UWM's annual Student-Athlete Award Reception this past Sunday at UWM. Among the awards given out to the swimming and diving team, were Faculty Representative's Awards, Team Academic Awards, and Scholar-Athlete selections. Sophomores Peter Clark and Beth Watt won the Faculty Representative's Award for the 2000-01 season . Clark, a psychology major, and Watt, a chemistry major, were honored as the student-athletes with the highest GPA on their respective teams. Both the women's and men's team were honored with Team Academic Awards. The Team Academic Awards are received in recognition for academic success and are given by the National Coaches Accociation. The UWM women's swimming and diving team was named to the Academic All-American team in March for the 24th consecutive semester. Scholar-Athlete Awards were presented to 31 members of the swimming and diving teams, with 21 Panthers being recognized as Scholar-Athletes with Distinction. Scholar-Athletes must have earned at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA, while criteria for Scholar-Athletes with Dinstinction include a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Honorees include:
