MILWAUKEE--UWM swimming and diving coach Dave Clark announced the signing of four swimmers to National Letters of Intent today. Michael Belting, Carey Kammel, and Sean Tepper have signed on to compete for the UWM men, while Kim Bach has signed a letter to swim for the women next season.

Michael Belting (Owatonna, MN/Owatonna), a six-time letterwinner in swimming, was an all-conference selection five times in high school. A mid-distance swimmer, Belting was all-state honoree in the 500 free in both 2000 and 2001, as well as the 200 free in 2001 when he won the Minnesota AA State Championship.

"Michael is a very exciting addition to our team. He is an experienced and rapidly improving swimmer," said Clark. "His experience and talent will allow him to make a quick and productive transition into NCAA Division I swimming.

Carey Kammel (Madison, WI/James Madison Memorial), who competes in the IM and breaststroke events, was a Division I state finalist the 200 IM and 100 breast in both 2000 and 2001.

"Carey is a very talented student/athlete," said Clark. "As a solid IMer, he can make a solid contribution to our team in many areas. We are quite excited to have Carey as part of our team for next season."

IM and backstroke swimmer Sean Tepper (West Bend, WI/East) was conference MVP in 2000. In that same year, he was a state finalist in both the 200 IM and 100 back. He was a finalist in both events again this past season, when he was honored as an all-state selection in the 100 back.

"Sean is a great addition to our program. He is a solid athlete with a great work ethic and motivation to excel," said Clark. "We are looking for him to make a contribution for our squad from the start."

Backstroke swimmer Kim Bach (Waunakee, WI/Waunakee) was a WIAA Division II State finalist in the 100 back each season between 1997 and 2000. Bach also ran track and was a part of her high school basketball team that made state in 2001. She also earned academic honors between 1999 and 2001.

"Kim is a talented multi-sport student/athlete," said Clark. "She has two letters in basketball along with four each in swimming and track. Her increased concentration on swimming should bring great improvements."

They join John Batty (Verona, WI/Verona) and Julie Olson (Hastings, MN/Hastings) who signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.
