MILWAUKEE - Josh Baseheart, Kelly Goetsch and Kristin Cefalu were named most valuable for the 2001-02 edition of the UWM swimming and diving team.

Baseheart was awarded the most valuable title for the men's team for the second consecutive year. Baseheart was one of two league champions on this year's men's squad, winning the 100 freestyle in a new league record time of 44.65. Baseheart also added a third in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 50 freestyle at the league meet, despite missing six weeks of training with a broken hand suffered in the Wheaton Invitational.

Kelly Goetsch and Kristin Cefalu were named co-most valuable for the women's team. Goetsch, a senior, won the 200 freestyle for the second consecutive year at the league meet and is the school record holder in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Cefalu won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the league championships, capping an undefeated season in the 200 breaststroke. Cefalu was 9-0 in dual meets in the event and captured titles in the Wheaton Invitational, Bill Ritter Invitational and the league championships.

In addition to the awards, the Panthers honored this year's class of seniors. The nine seniors combined to set four individual school records and win five league championships. The seniors also excelled in the classroom, as they combined for eight academic honor roll selections and five Academic All-League honorees.

Leslie Brock is the school record holder in the 500 freestyle and the 400 IM and a member of the 800 free relay record-holding team. She was the league champion in the 500 freestyle as a junior and twice was runner-up in the 400 IM at the league meet, finishing third this year. She is a four-time UWM Scholar Athlete and was twice named to the Academic Honor Roll, as well as being twice named to the Academic All-League team. As a sophomore, she was named team MVP. Leslie will be graduating in May as a marketing and human resources management major and will be looking for a job in marketing.

Kelly Goetsch is the school record holder in the 100 and 200 freestyle and is a member of the school record-holding 200 medley, 400 medley, 400 freestyle, and 800 freestyle relay teams. She is a two-time league champion in the 200 freestyle and placed in the top eight in 11 events at the league championships over four years. She is a four-time UWM Scholar Athlete and was twice named to the league academic honor roll and named to the Academic All-League team. She was a team captain this year and has won the MVP and Captain's Award during her collegiate career. She will be graduating in August with a degree in accounting and will begin her Master's degree in professional accounting in the fall.

Marco Gruchalski is a six-time league championship diving finalist who has earned the team's most improved award during his career. He is a communications major who will be finishing his degree over the next year. He also works in teen ministry and as a mentor to teenagers.

Adam Hanson is a nine-time league championship finalist and was the team captain as a junior and a senior. He has won the team's strength and conditioning award and Coaches Award during his career. He was a four-time UWM Scholar Athlete and was twice named to the league academic honor roll and Academic All-League teams. He will graduate this spring with a degree in finance.

Jessica Hoffmann is a five-time league championship finalist and a four-time UWM Scholar Athlete. She was also named to the league academic honor roll and has won the team's Scholar Athlete award. She is a nursing major who will graduate next year.

Erin McCauley is a nine-time league championship finalist and was named team captain as a junior and a senior. She has earned the team's most improved and Captains Award in her career. She is a four time UWM Scholar Athlete and was twice named to the league's academic honor roll. McCauley is a member of the UWM Honors Program and is an early education major and will begin student teaching in the fall.

Todd Murray is a nine-time league championship finalist and was a team captain this year. Murray is a mechanical engineering major and is working a second co-op term with HUSCO as a dynamic modeling and development engineer.

Erin Pollyea is a 12-time championship finalist and has placed as high as fourth in the 100 breaststroke. She was named a team captain for her senior season and has been awarded the team's rookie of the year and Coaches Award. She will graduate in August with a degree in human resource management.

Nic Seider transfered into UWM as a junior after spending two years at Minnesota. Seider won the 3m diving championship in both of his two years of competition. He has won the team's MVP award and was named a team captain for this year's team. He was also named Diver of the Year at this year's league championship. Seider is a nursing major who will graduate next spring.
