MILWAUKEE-- The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming and diving team has been named Academic All-American for the 23rd consecutive semester, the National Swim Coaches Association of America has announced.

The women's team accumulated a 3.22 grade point average on a four-point scale. The team ranked 20th among NCAA Division I colleges, ahead of some nationally known institutions such as University of California-Berkeley (3.16), University of Virginia (3.07) and University of Connecticut (3.06). Manhattan College paced all teams with a 3.41 overall GPA.

"If you are going to compete nationally, the classroom is the place to do it," UWM coach Dave Clark said. "How you do on your schoolwork has a major role in what you are able to do in your life. I am very pleased and proud that we can compete very well in the classroom with the best in the country."
