MILWAUKEE - The UWM men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named Academic All-American by the Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of America on Tuesday.

For the women, this marks the 26th consecutive semester they have received the award, while the men were honored after missing the list a year ago. UWM is the only school from the Horizon League to earn the award on either the men's or the women's side.

The women's team ranked 40th among Division I schools with a 3.107 cumulative grade point average, placing them ahead of schools such as the University of Miami, St. John's University, Rutgers University and Auburn University. The men ranked 17th with a grade point average of 3.012, landing them ahead of Northwestern University, Bucknell University, Penn State University, Purdue University and Indiana University.

"We are very proud to be a part of the Horizon League's emphasis on student welfare and academics," head coach Dave Clark said. "This is always a goal of our program and this award emphasizes that."

The Panthers wrapped up their team season last weekend with the Horizon League Championships in Chicago, where the women's team finished third out of seven and the men finished fourth out of six. Two divers, Nic Seider and Krystina Herzog, have qualified for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, which will be held on March 15, 2002, at Purdue University.
