MILWAUKEE-The MCC Swimming and Diving Championship finished the second night of finals much like the first, as the UWM women battled it out to remain on top of the conference at the Schroeder YMCA Center in Brown Deer. After falling to fifth place earlier in the day, the Panther men finished strong to hold a fourth-place finish heading into the final day of competition.

Milwaukee's women have 535 points after two days of competition, while Wright State is in second with 514 and UW-Green Bay in third with 435 points. Wright State leads the men's teams with 477 points, with Green Bay in second (408 points) and Cleveland State in third (372 points). The Panther men currently have 347 points.

"It's been every bit the meet I thought it would be," said UWM coach David Clark. "It's been very exciting from start to finish. I'm definitely looking forward to another day of competition."

Several Panther women broke school and freshman records Friday night. Junior Kelly Goetsche broke the school record while winning the 200 free in 1:54.81. Sophomore Amanda Chan won the 200 breaststroke in the finals, but broke the school record earlier in the prelims with a time of 1:05.75. UWM took third place in the women's 200 medley relay. Freshman Sarah Caldwell, Chan, Watt, and Goetsch swam the relay in 1:49.46.

In the men's events, UWM captured points in the 200 freestyle by finishing with the top two times. Sophomore Matt Schmaling won the event in 1:42.09 while sophomore Peter Clark finished second in 1:42.31.
