Herzog, Hallen Qualify for NCAA Zone Meet in UWM Swimming Win over Valparaiso

The men won all 13 events, placing one-two in 11 of them. Senior Todd Hill (West Bend, Wis./East) captured first-place finishes in both the one- and three-meter diving events. Senior Adam Stoelting (Kiel, Wis./Kiel) took second in both diving events. Freshman Matt Schmaling (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) had a solid meet, taking first in the 200 freestyle, as well as the 500 freestyle. Junior Joel White (Austin, Texas/Woodward) grabbed one first and one second in the 400 IM and 200 back, respectively. Other first-place finishers include senior Doug Kuntz (Brookfield, Wis./Central) in the 1,000 free, senior Andrew Babcock (Verona, Wis./Verona) in the 50 free, sophomore Adam Hanson (Verona, Wis./Verona)in the 200 fly, junior Bill Kuri (Wauwatosa, Wis./Milwaukee Marquette) in the 100 free, sophomore Daniel Babcock (Verona, Wis./Verona) in the 200 back, sophomore Todd Murray (Brookfield, Wis./East) in the 200 breast.The 400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay teams also won their events. Second-place finishers included freshman Peter Clark (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) in the 200 free and 500 free, sophomore Mike Smith (Brookfield, Wis./Central) in the 100 free, senior Mike Twohig (Kiel, Wis./Kiel) in the 200 fly and 1,000 free, freshman Dave Faust (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) in the 400 IM, senior Dave Dallman (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) in the 50 free, and the 400 medley relay teams. The women captured first-place in eleven events. The women placed one-two in seven events. Junior Randi Fletcher (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) in the 200 freeand 200 back, sophomore Leslie Brock (Appleton, Wis./Appleton) in the 500 free and 400 IM, and sophomore Erin Pollyea (Lincolnwood, Ill.-Niles West) in the 1,000 free, 200 breast each took two firsts in the meet. Other first-place finishes included freshman Krystina Herzog (Racine, Wis./Horlick) in one-meter diving, Beth Watt (Waukesha, Wis./West) in the 200 fly, Amanda Maas (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) in the three-meter diving. The 400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relays also won their events. Second place finishers were freshman Jenna Raymond (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood) in the 1,000 free and 500 free, sophomore Erin McCauley (Genoa City, Wis./Lake Geneva Badger) in the 400 IM, freshman Erin Hallen (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) in one-meter diving, junior Erin Schneider (Sussex, Wis./Hartland Arrowhead) in the 200 fly, senior Crystal Varadi (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) in the 200 back, senior Lisa Kivioja (Grafton, Wis.-Grafton) in the 200 breast, and the 400 medley relay. Watt set a new freshman record in the 200 fly with a time of 2:13.85. She also held the previous record. Herzog and Hallen both qualified for the district zone diving meet in diving over the weekend. The teams are next in action February 23-26, 2000 at the MCC Championships in Cleveland, Ohio. |
