Wheaton, Ill. - The UWM women's swimming team is in second place out of eight teams after the first day of competition at the Wheaton Invitational. The Panther men finished the first day's action in third place.

The women did not have any first place finishers in the championship finals in any one event. However, the depth of the Panthers carried them to their second place standing. UWM had four finishers in the championship final in the 200 IM and three each in the 500 free and 200 butterfly.

Josh Baseheart provided excitement in the men's 100 free. Baseheart set a UWM and Chrouser Pool record in the preliminary heat, swimming a 45.49. That time beat the previous school mark of 45.64, which Baseheart set last season. He then bettered that time in the finals, going the distance in 45.29 and winning the 100 free by more than half a second.

Action resumes Saturday morning with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 5:30.
