EVANSTON - The UWM Men's Swimming and Diving team encountered rough waters while dueling with some of the best the Big 10 has to offer.

Northwestern outlasted the Panthers 128-99 Friday night.

The UWM 400 freestyle relay team claimed the Panthers' only victory of the night, winning the race in 3:13.35. The team of Josh Baseheart, Bill Kuri, Peter Clark and Matt Schmaling beat the second-place finishers by more than three seconds.

The Panthers also got second place finishes from David Faust in the 1,000 freestyle and 500 freestyle, and Nick Seider in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competition.

"Northwestern is a solid, middle-of-the-road Big Ten team, and the Big Ten usually puts about half-a-dozen teams in the top 25 in the country. We competed very well against them and had some very good races," said UWM coach Dave Clark. "The freshmen learned a lot, which is key because they are a big part of our program. The more experience they can take away, the better we will be."

UWM's swimmers return to action Sunday at the Northwestern Relays.
