MILWAUKEE - UW-Green Bay claimed both the men's and women's titles in the Bill Ritter Invitational Saturday, outdistancing host UWM in both sides.

The Panthers trailed the Phoenix entering the third and final session in both the men's and women's meets. The women, who trailed by less than 40 points entering the final session, put on a late charge but were held off by Green Bay, who finished the meet with 1,015.50 points. Milwaukee was second with 962, followed by Illinois State with 877. Illinois-Chicago finished a distant fourth, scoring 449 points. Butler and Marquette finished fifth and sixth, with Butler scoring 252 and the Golden Eagles tallying 140.50.

On the men's side, the outcome was never in doubt, as the Phoenix led by more than 200 points entering the final session. UWGB finished the meet with 1,215 points, while UWM finished with 907. Butler took third with 461 points, followed by Illinois-Chicago with 401 and Marquette with 245.

Michael Belting, Jason Procto and Josh Baseheart each captured a win for the Panthers in the final session. Baseheart took first in the 100 free, while Procto added a win in the 200 backstroke to his victory in the 100 back earlier in the day. Belting took first in the men's 1650, followed by teammate David Faust.

Kristin Cefalu had the only win for the Panther women in the second session, as she won the 200 breaststroke. The Panthers did manage to place five swimmers in the top ten in the 1650 and five in the top eight in the 200 breast. Amanda Chan took fourth in the 200 breast, followed by Rachel Smith. Sarah Caldwell took seventh place, while Leslie Brock finished eighth in the event. In the women's mile, Erin McCauley took fourth and Jen Kedinger finished sixth. Sarah Walby, Erin Pollyea and Cathy Honeyager finished eighth through tenth to help the Panther cause.

Andy Davis achieved the statistical oddity of placing in both the meet's shortest and longest events. Davis finished 16th in the men's 50 freestyle and added an eighth place finish in the men's mile.

The Panthers return to the pool on Friday, Feb. 1, when they travel to DeKalb, Ill., to take on Northern Illinois.
