MILWAUKEE - Jen Kedinger and David Faust combined to give UWM a sweep of the 500 freestyle on Friday in the first day of the Bill Ritter Invitational.

Kedinger led three Panthers in the top four places in the 500, as Leslie Brock finished second and Sarah Walby placed fourth. The trio combined for 51 points to push UWM to a 19 point lead over Illinois State. UW-Green Bay stands third, followed by Illinois-Chicago, Butler and Marquette.

On the men's side, Faust's victory was coupled with a third-place finish by Michael Belting, though UWM still trails UW-Green Bay by nearly 90 points after the first day's action. Illinois-Chicago is third, with Butler and Marquette coming in fourth and fifth.

The women had three finishers in the top ten in the 200 IM. Danielle Bradley placed sixth, followed by Sarah Caldwell. Kari Kinney finished 10th to round out the top ten. Beth Watt chipped in with a fourth-place finish in the 50 free.

In the men's 200 IM, Carey Kammel was the top UWM finisher, placing eighth. Josh Baseheart added a second-place finish in the men's 50 free, while Ben Creydt, Adam Steffes and John Batty placed sixth through eighth.

The Panthers return to the pool Saturday morning for the second session of the Bill Ritter Invitational. The session begins at 10 a.m.
