Cheerleading Tryout Information

2009-10 Tryouts Set For May

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will hold cheerleader tryouts for the 2009-2010 season in early May.

The mandatory meetings, clinics and tryouts are scheduled for April 26 and May 3, 9 and 10.

All interested participants must attend a mandatory information meeting prior to taking part in the material and tryout clinics. The first meeting is April 26 at 1:30 p.m., with an additional meeting scheduled for May 3 at 1 p.m. A material clinic follows each meeting, and those interested in trying out do have the option of attending both clinics, which will be held in Engelmann Gym.

A mandatory tryout clinic will then be held May 9 from 1-4:30 p.m., while the formal tryouts are scheduled for May 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Engelmann Gym.

All participants must register in advance. If the participant is under the age of 18, all forms must be signed by his or her legal guardian prior to participating in the clinic and tryout.

UW-Milwaukee Cheerleaders About the Cheerleading Squad

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panther Cheerleaders and Stuntmen are a coed squad committed to promoting Panther Athletics and excellence in cheerleading. The role of the UWM Panther Cheerleader is to represent the university, support the athletic teams and generate crowd participation. The UWM Cheerleaders cheer for both the men and women's basketball teams and also participate in numerous University and community events. This coming season, we hope to become even more visible through greater participation in community events and exhibition performances.

Cheerleader & Stuntman Responsibilities

Cheerleaders and Stuntmen selected during the spring tryout will represent UW-Milwaukee at the UCA College Cheerleading Camp in Milwaukee in mid-August. Members of the team are also expected to attend clinics in the months of June and July as well as "work week", which is the week prior to cheer camp. Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6:30PM and 9:00PM and team work outs are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30AM-8:00AM. Team members are also required to schedule an additional individual conditioning day based upon their academic schedule. All workouts and practices are mandatory for all team members.

Cheerleaders and stuntmen are expected to attend all men's and women's basketball games, post-season tournament games, team workouts, team fundraising events, and any other scheduled university or community events.

Cheerleading is a major personal commitment of your non-academic time and cannot be placed secondary to other non-academic activities.
