Wenger Honored As Horizon League Swimmer Of The Week2/8/2010 - Junior Danielle Wenger of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming team has been named the Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon. The award is the first of the season for Wenger and the second of her career. She set two pool records in a home meet against defending conference champion Green Bay this past weekend. Her winning times of 5:04.31 in the 500 freestyle and 10:19.05 in the 1000 freestyle helped her squad to a near upset over the Phoenix, losing the meet by just one point, 122-121. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend road swing through Indiana with a 5-2 loss to IPFW Sunday morning. The Panthers (2-2) did claim a pair of singles wins but could not overcome a number of strong efforts by the Mastodons. Senior Kari Kastenholz earned one of the points for Milwaukee, claiming a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Yuka Kobayashi at number-four singles. Then, freshman Brittany Skemp captured a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory over Alex Forsyth in the number-six slot. But, IPFW had already won the doubles point by capturing all three doubles contests and the Mastodons also won the remaining four singles outings in straight sets. Read Full Release 2/6/2010 - M. Matt Smith and Rahmon Fletcher scored 13 points apiece and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay limited the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to just seven second-half field goals en route to a 61-54 win Saturday night at the Resch Center. Anthony Hill and Ja'Rob McCallum each had 13 points for Milwaukee, which shot just 33 percent in the second half after a solid 48.5 percent effort in the first 20 minutes. In fact, UWM (13-11, 5-7 Horizon) had just two field goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half but still found itself within three points with 2:30 to play. That was as close as the Panthers would get, though, as Fletcher hit a key three-point basket with 35 seconds remaining to restore a seven-point edge. Read Full Release |
